Classes at
A Coffee and A Yarn for Semester 1, 2012

All classes are held at our shop in Newtown. If you would like to sign up for a class you can do so by giving us a call during business hours (Mon – Fri 8:00am – 6:00pm, Thurs late opening till 7:00pm, Sat 9:00am – 5:00pm, Sun 11:00am - 4.00pm). We take phone bookings, Ph (02) 9550 5667; or you can make a booking at the shop - A Coffee and A Yarn, 413 King Street, Newtown NSW 2042. We request payment for classes when you make a booking. The classes require a minimum of 5 people to operate and money will be refunded if a class needs to be cancelled due to insufficient numbers. There is a 10% discount on all classes for students and pensioners.

THE CLASSES

1.     How Do You Do It? Beginning Knitting, (1 session) $40

In this class you will learn to cast on and the knit and purl stitch. You will also learn to cast off. With these skills you can start your first scarf.

Saturdays 2:pm – 4:00pm 

How Do You Do It? Intermediate Knitting (1 session) $40 

In this class you will learn to shape garments (increasing, decreasing, creating darts).  You will also learn how to read a simple pattern and  tips for completing your project neatly.

Saturdays 2:00pm – 4:00pm 

3.     How Do You Do It? Beginning Crochet (3 sessions) $120

Learn basic crochet including slip knots, chain stitch, slip stitch, double crochet, half treble and treble – all the techniques you need to begin a Granny Square Blanket.  Materials are not included so call by at the shop for a list of all materials required.

Tuesdays 6:30pm –8:30pm 

4.     Jumper 101 Workshop Basic Knitting (4 sessions) $160

Top down, Seam Free, Basic Jumper

This workshop is ideal for those who have never made a complete garment. Very basic knitting skills are needed. Techniques will be taught as required during the sessions. Materials, tools and the pattern will be discussed during the first session. Jumper 101 is offered as a fortnightly workshop; homework is required.

Sundays 11.00am-1:00pm  

5.     Beginner Amigurumi Basic Crochet (3 sessions) $120

Only basic crochet skills are required to create an original Amigurumi toy. In this class you will learn the skills needed to create a cute mini teddy bear. All materials will be provided so that at the end of the lessons you will leave with a completed toy.

Sundays 2:00pm – 4:00pm 

6. Sunday Clinic with Lyndell (knitting) and Ellie (crocheting)

Every Sunday 11.00am – 2:00pm - Cost $8.00

7.     The Joy of Socks Intermediate Knitting (3 sessions) $120

In this class you will learn to knit a basic sock on a set of 5 double pointed needles. There will be three sessions and homework is required between each fortnightly session. You will learn to cast on four needles, rib with a stretch, turn the heel, and graft (Kitcheners stitch) the toe. Materials are not included and these may be purchased from the shop any time.

Wednesdays 6.30pm – 8.30pm 

8.     Beginner Spinning Basic Spinning with a Drop Spindle (2 sessions) $80.00 + Spindle $30

In this class you will learn to make your own yarn. Lee-Fay will introduce you to the traditional techniques of spinning and plying yarn with a drop spindle and to finishing your yarn. We will also discuss different fibres and yarn structures. Spindles are not included in the lesson price but wool will be provided for your use during class.
